We have all experienced construction workers drilling away their machines into the ground and cementing the walls of a building. But did you know that the average construction process takes nearly 7 to 11 months to complete? No wonder the workers have to do their job irrespective of the scorching heat.

Since construction is a vast field, the various works are segregated into diverse departments. As such, construction itself falls into various categories known as the stages of construction. Each of these construction phases requires a different kind of personal protective equipment (PPE), But if you want to see each stage of construction comprehensively before the place is move-in-ready, you’ve got to read this to the end. Before the construction process begins, map out a well-established plan to help each worker understand their daily tasks. It also involves other varieties of activities designed to carry out the projects effectively. Finding a suitable location is the foremost of all. Hiring a general contractor is the next. The general contractor is significant because they administer the entire construction project carefully until it is over. Their day-to-day tasks may include managing the vendors, helping the trades, and communicating information to the parties involved.

In the pre-construction phase, people must acquire the necessary permits to carry out the construction process. This may involve some paperwork and document signatures too. But that is not all. The construction process also demands an assortment of resources required for the seamless execution of the project. Apart from this, preparing a checklist is mandatory as it helps the contractor ensure that the tasks are completed systematically. It also helps ensure that they don’t miss any tasks. So, the pre-construction phase before the construction begins is quite significant.

By far, the construction process is the most critical of all. As such, it involves a host of phases.

1. Excavation And Site Preparation

Before the construction occurs, the location needs to be prepared for it. It involves a cleaning process that eliminates all the debris, rocks and other natural obstacles that may hinder the process. Once that is done, the general contractor will come to action and command the workers to construct according to the plan strategized in the pre-construction phase. An excavation subcontractor will also come in handy during this time. This takes nearly a week or two. But the process may take longer or shorter time depending on the project.

2. The Three Fs

This step includes the footing, foundation and framing. So, as soon as the property is all set to be established, the workers implement footing, foundation and framing. Often, this is accompanied by roofing later. The total phase may take nearly 2 to three months to complete. This is the part where the exterior construction is carried out. So, the structure of the building is prepared in this stage.

3. Interior Designing

Once the exterior construction is carried out, it is time to focus on the interiors. As such, this process includes the installation of HVAC, plumbing, and even electrical systems. So, all the different workers come together to work according to the team’s plan beforehand. The installation of insulation also occurs during this process. The insulation is positioned amidst the framed studs.

So, after the primary wiring is over, it is time to focus on inspecting the installations and designing the walls and ceilings of each floor. This process is what defines each room. Both the insulation and drywall process requires two months approx. Again, the time may differ according to the construction project. Finally, quick quality control is run through to make sure everything is upgraded the right way.

4. Interior Finishes

By this time, the outside and the inside of the building both start resembling the plan envisioned in the initial stage of the construction process. So, you are more than just almost halfway through with it. Now is the time to install the cabinets, work on the interiors. This may include trimming and molding every edge that requires consideration. The pre-paint and painting process also occurs during this time. Such a thing happens to give the home a finishing touch before it is move-in ready. The flooring is also laid out at this point to complete the look. This entire process takes nearly one to two months to complete.

5. Exterior Finishes

Yes, your home is almost move-in ready, but they’re still making the final touches during this time. The construction workers now go back to the exteriors of the process and finish the mechanical work of fixing lights, outlets, and electrical wiring. They will also perform flat work like driveways and walkways to give the homeowner a seamless experience. Thus, landscaping also focuses on where to plant the grass, plants and shrubs to enhance the environment.

6. The Final Touch

The job is done. At this point, you need not work on it for hours or beat the hammer in the scorching heat. Now is the time to clean up the property, pick up your equipment and leave. So, house clean up is performed and made sure that the home is debris-free. All cutting and sharp tools are also removed from sight to ensure that the property is safe to move into. Punch listing and final inspection are also carried out to ensure everything is aligned correctly.

Post Construction Phase

This is the time when the workers can rest, get their salary and go home. During this time, the architect starts the document work to prove that the job is done. With that, the entire construction process comes to an end.
